"Joanne Mazzeo, a local artist, created this beautiful backdrop for the Springtown Post Office window. It depicts the Cooks Creek Watershed and many native plants and animals, plus some human made structures & boundaries.
Under the instruction of Joanne, students at Springfield Elementary school made creatures from recycled materials inspired by water insects to adorn the foreground.
The students will also be participating in other activities relating to the watershed in conjunction with Heritage Conservancy and the Cooks Creek Watershed Association.
This is a continuation of a multi-year collaborative effort between Springfield Township EAC and Springfield Elementary School to educate and inspire young students about our local environment. Previous topics have included birds, litter prevention and trees.
Springfield Township EAC would like to thank Joanne for bringing her talent and generous spirit to the project. Plus, big shout outs go to Rachael Tubiello, a Springfield Elementary school teacher who has spearheaded environment-related activities at the school and Lorna Yearwood, Springfield Township Supervisor for bringing the project to fruition."
